Body to body massage in Amsterdam or the hotel spa downstairs: which suits a self-conscious guest
Many hotels in the city have a spa a few floors below the guest rooms, and a guest weighing up a body to body massage in Amsterdam will sometimes ask whether the spa would be simpler. For some it would. For a guest who hesitates over his own body, though, the spa and the room ask very different things, and the differences are worth setting side by side.
the piece
They are not the same service, and it helps to say so first. A hotel spa offers treatments from a menu, given on a table with draping, by staff working to a timetable. A full contact session in your room is a different format altogether, arranged around one guest and one room. The choice is less about quality than about what each setting asks of you.
What a spa asks of your body
A spa visit usually begins at a reception desk, continues in a changing room with mirrors and other guests, and moves through corridors in a robe and slippers. The table is a fixed length and width, often too short for a tall guest and narrow for a broad one, and spa tables carry a working load that a very heavy guest may wonder about. The session follows a set script, at set times, and the spa closes in the evening. None of that is a problem for a confident guest. For a self-conscious one, it is a series of moments of being seen before the treatment even starts.
What a body to body massage in Amsterdam in your room asks instead
Your room asks only that you be there. Nobody sees you between the shower and the surface. The surface is chosen for your frame, the floor for a long body, a firm bed for a stiff one, and nothing has a fixed length. The pace is set in the thread rather than by a timetable, and the hour can be late at night or early in the morning. What you give up is the pool, the sauna and the sense of an occasion.
When the spa is the better choice
If what you want is a classical treatment on a specific area, with a therapist trained for that, the spa is the right place, and nothing on this site claims to replace it. Nothing here is medical or therapeutic. If you enjoy the ritual of robes and steam, go and enjoy it. Some guests do both on the same trip: the spa in the afternoon, a session in the room later on.
When the room is
If the robe walk is the part you dread, if the spa table would leave your feet hanging, or if you want a full contact format rather than a treatment, the room is the simpler answer. The page for a tall guest covers the length problem, and the body to body format describes what the session itself involves.
